Personality:
Annabeth is dorky. There's no way around it, from her glasses, to her job as a science teacher, to her wish to bring Mr. Wizard back to TV one day, Beth is a dork. She enjoys that she's a dork. She's not as sarcastic as her fiance but she can keep up in the comedy department. She's a bit clumsy. She's dropped and broken many fragile items, walked into doorways or the corners of tables. She hates walking barefoot on sidewalks or paved surfaces because she will stub her toe - it never fails, every time! She's a go-with-the-flow kind of person and she thinks that maybe the years of using surfing as her least lazy activity made this mentality sink in. You can only hang out with those surfer-types for so long before some of it rubs off, right? She doesn't think she has to have some kind of notoriety in order to feel like her life is extraordinary in some way. She likes her new job, she loved her new town, she's content with her relationship status, and though she can't imagine having grown up with all those siblings, she kind of digs Garrett's huge family. They're kind of crazy and she likes to observe them. It's also nice to kind of have relatives. She doesn't get worked up often, so when she does have a bad day, or finally boils over it tends to be pretty explosive, but it boils over usually in a few hours. Everybody has their moments, she figures. She hates yard work with a passion and has a hard time keeping even a cactus alive. She does, however, like dusting and vacuuming but has no idea why.

History:

- Annabeth had a rather uneventful childhood: She was born in 1970. She was an only child. Her father was a math teacher and her mother was a secretary. She grew up in Olympia, WA. She played volleyball in Jr. High and High school. She made most of her money from ages 13 to 17 through babysitting. She liked hiking. She hated fishing with her dad. The most exciting thing that happened to her was getting accepted to college in another state.

- Attended the University of Hawaii West Oahu from 1988 until graduation in 1994 and left with a Masters Degree in Science.

- While going to school in Hawaii, Annabeth learned to surf, mostly because one of her more attractive classmates was an avid surfer. When he offered to teach her, she could hardly refuse. After a few weeks of lessons, she was getting pretty good, until she wiped out during a particularly rough surf day. She wound up being knocked into some particularly sharp rocks and wound up with quite the scar after the stitches finally came out. She’s had about three plastic surgery procedures done on it in the years since then to reduce the appearance of the scar.

- When she was thirty, Annabeth met Garrett McGuiness at a Taco Bell. She was reaching for the last Fire sauce packet from the condiment tray when a kid beat her to it. After sitting down at a table with her tray, lamenting her lack of fire sauce, Garrett had offered her one of his. Ironically enough the saying on the front of the packet was, 'Single hot sauce seeking friendship, maybe more.' Who could argue with fate like that?

- After a night out with friends on her thirty-third birthday, Garrett drove Annabeth home and helped her to her door. When she couldn't figure out how to unlock her door, he did it for her and helped her inside. Once they were inside, Annabeth thought it was an awesome idea to thank him by kissing him. When she woke up next to him the next morning, well she wasn't exactly upset about it. At this point in the relationship, they consider their first date.

- Though it took three years before they started dating, economically, it made sense for them to start cohabiting just about a year or so after they'd started dating.

- When she was thirty-eight, she got engaged. At a car wash. It was perfectly romantic. Sitting in the car during a car wash, eating some Taco Bell they’d picked up before hitting the car wash, Garrett very eloquently said something along the lines of ‘Hey, maybe we should get married’. What was a girl to say to that, other than to shrug and say, ‘Sure.’ And that was that. They’ve yet to make any wedding plans, or to really even discuss it since then other than the occasional, ‘we should do (insert random idea here) when we get married’ joke.

- In 2009, she was laid-off from her job at the observatory in Olympia thanks to the lovely economy.

- Money was tight and the job search needed to expand to surrounding areas, not just Olympia. It just happened to be convenient that she was offered a teaching position in the science department at Heritage High School, since Garrett at least had relatives already living there. Having a salary and benefits again was quite the welcome feeling.

Fears:
- Sharks
- Contracting salmonella from Taco Bell
- Atomosophobia- Fear of atomic explosions.
Desires:
- To actually go through with getting married, just so people stop asking ‘So when are you two getting married?’
- To teach at Whitlinger College so that she can opt to have afternoon and evening classes so he schedule is slightly more on par with Garrett’s.
- For real life to burst into song and choreographed dance one day (and one day only)

One Secret:
Has always wanted to be the lead in a musical

Five Random Facts:
- Doesn’t really mind that her glasses make her look nerdy
- Has a scar along the left side of her face from under her bottom lip up along her cheek (see history)
- Loves board games
- Has a pet hedgehog named Skewer
- Likes to clean and cook
- Hates yard work
- Loves Taco Bell
- Doesn't like thunderstorms
- Misses living by the beach, but only a little

So a date has finally been set! Garrett and I finally tying the knot, on Saturday March 31st. Nothing too extremely fancy, just a small service at the church (does it count as small if your in-laws make up a small army??) and then a party at Teddy’s afterward. Expect invitations within the week!

[[[ooc; due to my procrastination, pretend this was posted 2/25/12 and if any of your characters are family or friends of the McG’s pretend feel free to assume they received an invitation to the wedding by 2/29/12!]]]

Well, we're definitely going to wind up with an extended school year after all the time off for the Quarantine on top of our snow days. That's a bit of a bummer, but on the bright side the extra days off weren't so bad. Emily and Nolan were nice enough to invite us over when our power went out. I think Nacho might have enjoyed playing with Ryan about as much as Ryan enjoyed having a temporary pet guest.

Unrelated, I gave my students another fun post snowpocalypse extra credit question for fun. Before I post a picture let me explain that when I give extra credit questions, it's usually when I know the kids are stressed and the test is extensive. I only do it once or twice each semester. This particular one was worth 5 points. It is almost always something goofy and not entirely serious. I try and make it simple to everyone's pretty much guaranteed credit. I am genuinely surprised that only three students got this one correct.

Gotta make you understand )

It is entirely hilarious to watch a small chihuahua in a hooded sweater, hop around in snow that's deeper than his height. Where did Nacho go? OH WAIT THERE HE IS - oh...he's gone again...
Adorable.

Erica, in honor of being snowed in, I have knitted you...a baby blanket. And a cute little knit hat to go with it, for Aaron obviously. Baby blankets are smaller, much quicker to make.

Now...I'm going to go make Garrett play board games with me.

Clearly picking a job with so many extended holidays/multiple week vacations the way to go! There's so much time, usually, to spend with people, instead of sitting down and grading papers! This year's holidays are cut shorter. I think there's talk of significantly cutting spring break down too so we don't have to extrnd the year too much longer to make up for lost time because of the quarantine. With a little luck, we won't have too many snow days either. When do you ever hear me say that? I love snow days. Ah, well.

I'm okay. Really. I just feel crappy. And can't hear really out of my one ear... Sorry for not getting back to texts, e-mails, voicemails, missed calls, etc, it's only because this sickness has made me so damn sleepy that...well I've been sleeping. Considering half of the updates (and more) that I've been seeing while I'm in between lengthy naps, I'll figure I am very lucky and call it a day. I'll go start replying to those messages now. Garrett, I'll call you in a few minutes, just waiting for my phone to charge up enough to turn on (sorry!) Erica, Bryan...pictures of the baby to brighten my spirits, please?

Private to Erica

I'm sorry...I had NO idea you'd done something wrong for the Princess to assume she's finally over herself and all is well now that she's 'not mad anymore.' Did you wrong her in some way?

OH WAIT....no. No you didn't.

School's been out for over a week. My birthday included tacos. It was completely beautiful out today despite some clouds. It is officially summer. Life is good. I don't think people realize this often enough. Downside to today? I broke my glasses in a tragic garbage disposal accident. Sadly, this means I have to wear my old scratch and dent pair until I can get to the doc for a new pair. Bright side? I didn't break the garbage disposal. Phew.

What, I have to ask, is the appeal of 'red velvet cake'? Am I wrong in believing it is simply regular cake with food dye in it? Is there something special mixed in that I remain unaware of? I mean don't get me wrong, cake is cake is cake is cake. It's tasty with the right kind of icing. But still. Why is red velvet all over and the 'flavor of the whatevertime' when it's not...y'know a flavor. That is all!

Just a head's up. Garrett's got a bleed. We're at the ER. All is stable. Will keep you post. Layla, don't freak out... PS - Waiting room chairs suck.

ATTENTION HERITAGE MCGs AND THOSE OF BLOOD RELATION:

I need a head count if you're coming to Thanksgiving dinner, and if you are bringing anything. That is all.

Taylor: are you and your parents coming, or are you three familying alone?

Cormac: are you inviting anyone along?

Sid: I don't know if you have access to a computer, but I'll have a huge tray just for you for our next visit, and will probably call to tell you later.

Erica: Want to join us or do you already have plans?

Garrett: This means you are not exempt from cleaning :)

Sometimes I wonder, are my glasses the right style to take up knitting? I guess I'd need a rocking chair out on the porch for that. And a basket. For all of my yarn.

I gave one of my classes a simple bonus question on a test today because I was feeling generous. List the planets in our solar system in order from closest to the sun to farthest from the sun. Easy right?

Favorite answer given:
In a day and age where we are told not to ostracize anyone for their shortcomings, we should not bully Pluto out of our solar system. I respectfully decline to answer this question.

One of five possible points awarded to you, miss, well played indeed.
